Job Responsibilities

  • Compensation (Range): $20 - $23/ hour: Salary:
  • We are looking for a high-performing Battery Cell Innovation Center (BCIC) Technician supporting the design and manufacturing of GM battery cell technology for General Motors' electrification programs. As a BCIC Technician you will provide technical equipment/systems, cell manufacturing, and testing support to product engineering teams; while adhering to and enforcing the principles of safe work practices, Quality Management System, and ensuring workplace organization and Lean process standards are maintained.
  • As a Technician I you will exhibit more expertise and training beyond that of the fifth level technician. Your work should be less routine and involve more independent decisions and less supervision.
  • You will possess the ability to train entry level technicians.
  • You will manage most project responsibilities rather than working on parts of a job.

  • Perform all required tasks in relation to equipment setup, operation, cleaning, testing, and process checks to ensure reliable and consistent functionality.
  • Work consistently in controlled, "clean room" environment while wearing required protective equipment
  • Utilize Job Instruction Training process to grow combined skill set of work group
  • Mix chemicals (liquids, powders, gases) to a specified recipe
  • Perform scheduled equipment maintenance and required cleaning
  • Observe equipment functionality and troubleshoot issues when needed
  • Maintain records on work performed, analyze data collected, and report results
  • Recommend revisions to lab process
  • Document best practices in battery cell manufacturing processes through standardized work instructions
  • Use data collection to make well informed process improvements through corrective action
  • Identify and eliminate operational waste through use of Lean manufacturing tools
  • Execute problem solving techniques to improve efficiency, quality, and safety
  • Maintain good housekeeping, safety practices, and supplies
  • Coordinate and exchange findings with engineering personnel outside work group
  • Properly dispose of material waste
  • Actively participate in team/group Business Plan Deployment meetings


Job Requirements

  • Two-year associate degree in mechanical, chemical, electrical field or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years previous working experience in a lab environment
  • Thorough knowledge of complex mechanical, chemical, and/or electrical concepts
  • Working knowledge of computer applications used in lab/manufacturing environments
  • Ability to accurately interpret engineering instructions
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical ability where problems are somewhat complex
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others and assigned leaders in an inclusive, team environment
  • Must be willing to work any shift
  • Must be able to ware respirator/PAPR as required by task.
  • Desired Skills
  • Previous working experience in a chemical laboratory
  • Knowledge of vehicle battery systems and safe work practices
  • Knowledge of test equipment, measuring, and recording devices
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical diagnostics and repair
  • Machining and/or welding experience
  • Implementation and use of Lean manufacturing tools and processes
  • Personality traits
  • This is R&D so someone that is able to adapt well and work in an environment where change is constant.
  • Someone who is neat and orderly. Able to document and communicate process direction.
